The Centre Muga Eri Research & Training Institute (CMER&TI) was established in year 1999, under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The Institute act as a apex institute for providing Research & Development support for Muga and Eri Sericulture.

The Institute has been undertaking entire gamut of R&D activities to cater the needs of the on farm and post cocoon sector of Muga and Eri Sericulture. The institute also conducting basic and applied research in the Frontier Areas.

The Centre Muga Eri Research & Training Institute (CMER&TI), conducting activities like, Exploration, Collection, Introduction and Conservation of Muga and Eri Food plants and Silkworm Germplasm, imparting training programme on Muga and Eri Reading Technology,Seed Technology Reeling and Spinning and Organize courses also for the Staff.
