Moving loads shearing force  and Bending moment \ndiagrams; influence lines for simple and continuous beams.  Analysis of \ndeterminate and indeterminate arches. matrix methods of analysis,  \nstiffness and flexibility matrics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>b) Steel Design :<\/strong> Factors of safety and load  \nfactor; Design of tension; compression and flexural members; built up \nbeams and  plate girders, semi-rigid and rigid connections, Design of \nstanchions, slab and  guesseted bases; cranes and gantry grider; roof \ntrusses; industrial and multi  storeyed buildings. Plastic design of \nframes and portals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>c) R.C. Design :<\/strong> Design of slabs, simple and  \ncontinuous beams, columns, footing-single and combined, raft \nfoundations,  elevated water tanks, encased beams and column, ultimate \nload design. Methods  and systems of prostressing; anchorages, losses in\n prestress. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PART \u2013 B <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>a) Fluid Mechanics :<\/strong> Dynamics of fluid \nflow-equations  of continuity; energy and momentum. Bernoulli\u2019s theorem;\n caritation, velocity  potential and steam function; rotational and \nirrotational flow, free and forced  vertices; flow net, dimensional \nanalysis and its application to practical  problems. Viscous flow-flow \nbetween Static and moving parallel plates, flow  through circular tubes;\n film lubrication. Velocity distribution in laminar and  turbulent flow \nboundary layer, Incompressible flow through pipes laminar and  turbulant\n flow critical velocity, losses Stamption and moody\u2019s diagram.  \nhydraulic and energy grade lines; siphons; pipe network. Forces on pipe \nbends.  compressible flow-Adiabatic and isentropic flow, subsonic and \nsupersonic  velocity; mach number, shock wave, Water Hammer, surge \nTanks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>b) Hydraulic Engineering :<\/strong> Open channel  \nflow-Uniform and non-uniform flow, best hydraulic cross section. \nSpecific  enegry and critical depth, gradually varied flow; \nclassification of surface  profiles; control sections; standing wave \nflume; Surges and waves. Hydraulic jump.  Design of canals- Unlined \nchannels in alluvium; the critical tractive stress,  principles of \nsediment transport regime theories, lined channels; hydraulic  design \nand coat analysis; drainage behind lining. Canal structures- Designs of \n regulation work; cross drainage and communication workscross \nregulatiors, head  regulator, canal falls, aqueducts, metering flumes \netc., Canal outlets.  Diversion Headworks- Principles of design of \ndifferent part on impermeable and  permeable foundations; Khosla\u2019s \ntheory; Energy dissipation; sediment exclusion.  Dams- Design of rigid \ndams; earth dams; Forces acting on dams: stability  analysis. Design of \nspillways. Wells and Tube Wells. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>c) Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering :<\/strong> Soil \n Mechanics : Origin and Classification of soils; Atterburg limits. Void \nratio :  moisture contents permeability, laboratory and field tests, \nseepage and flow  nets, flow under hydraulic structures uplic and quick \nand condition. Unconfined  and direct shear tests; triaxial test; heat \npressure theories, stability of  slopes; Theories of soil consolidation;\n rate of sttlement. Total and effective  stress analysis, pressure \ndistribution in soils; Boussinesque and Westerguard  theories. Soil \nexploration. Foundation Engineering; Bearing capacity of  footings; \npiles and walls; design of retaining walls; sheet piles and caissons.  \nPrinciples of design of block foundation for machines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PART \u2013 C<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>a) Building Construction :<\/strong> Building materials  and \nconstructions : Timber, stone, brick, sand, surkhi, mortar, concrete,  \npaints and varnishes, plastics, etc, Detailing of walls, floors roofs,  \nceillings, staircases, doors and windows. finishing of building \nplastering,  pointing, painting etc. Use of building codes. Ventilation,\n air conditioning  lighting and acoustics. Building estimates and \nspecifications. Construction  scheduling: PERT and CPM methods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>b) Railways &amp; Highway Engineering : <\/strong>Railways-Permanent\n  way ballast sleeper; chairs and fastenings; points and crossings \ndifferent  types of turn outs cross over setting out of points. \nmaintenance of track super  elevation creep of rail, ruling gradients; \ntrack resistance, tractive effort;  curve resistance, Station yards, \nstation buildings; platform sidings; turn  tables. Signals and \ninterlocking; level crossings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>c) Roads and Runways :<\/strong> Classification of roads,  \nplanning geometric design. Design of flexible and rigid pavements; \nsub-bases  and wearing surfaces. Traffic engineering and traffic \nsurveys; intersections  road signs; signal and markings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>d) Surveying : <\/strong>Plane Table Surveying : Equipment  \n&amp; methods, solution of 3 &amp; 2 point problems. Errors and \nprecaution.  Triangulation; Grades, Baseline and its measurement, \nSatellite station,  Intervisibility of Stations; Errors and Least \nsquares. General methods of least  squares estimation with \ninterdisciplinary approach, adjustment of level nets  and triangulation \nnets. Matrix notation solutions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>e) Layout of Curves :<\/strong> Simple, compound, reverse,  \ntransition and vertical curves. Project surveys and layout of Civil \nEngineering  works such as buildings bridges, tunnels, and hydroelectric\n projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PART \u2013 D<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>a) Water Resources Engineering :<\/strong> Hydrology-  \nHydrologic cycle; precipitation; evaporation-transpiration and \ninfiltration  hydrographs, units hydrograph; Flood estimations and \nfrequency. Planning for  water Resources- Ground and Surface water \nresources; surface flows. Single and  multipurpose projects storage \ncapacity, reservoir losses, reservoir silting,  flood routing. Benefit \ncost ratio. General principles of optimisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>b) Water Requirements for Crops : <\/strong>Quality of  \nirrigation water, consumptive use of water, water depth and frequency of\n  irrigation; duty of water; Irrigation methods and efficiencies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>c) Distribution System for Canal Irrigation : <\/strong>Determination\n  of required channel capacity; channel losses, Alignment of main and  \ndistributary channels water logging its causes to control design of \ndrainage  system; soil salinity. river training- Principles and methods,\n Storage  works-Types of dams (including earth dams.), and their \ncharacteristics,  principles of design, criteria for stability. \nFoundation treatment; joints and  galleries. Control of seepage. \nSpillways different types and their suitability,  energy dissipation. \nSpillway crest gates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>d) Sanitation and Water Supply :<\/strong> Sanitation-Site  \nand orientation of buildings; ventilation and damp proof course; house  \ndrainage; conservancy and waterborne system of waste disposal, sanitary \nappliances,  latrines and urinals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>e) Environmental Engineering :<\/strong> Elementary  \nprinciples of Ecology and Ecosystems and their interaction with \nenvironment.  Engineering activity and Environmental pollution. \nEnvironment and its effects  on human health and activity. Air \nEnvironment: Major pollutants and their  adverse effects, types of air \ncleaning devices. Water quality: Parameters,  adverse effects, \nmonitoring salt purification of streams. Solid Wastes:  Collection \nsystems and disposal methods, their selection and operation.
