No. In the Central Government (including UPSC, SSC, Railways, and Bank examinations), EWS candidates are granted a 10% vacancy reservation under DoPT OM No. 36039/1/2019-Estt(Res), but no upper age relaxation is provided. An EWS candidate has the exact same upper age limit as an Unreserved (General) candidate. Only a few specific state governments (like Rajasthan, Haryana, or Bihar) have introduced state-level EWS age concessions for state exams, but for all Central exams, EWS age relaxation is zero.
For Ex-Servicemen, the government uses a deemed age subtraction formula:
Deemed Age = Actual Age as on Cutoff Date - (Total Years of Military Service Rendered + 3 Years)
If your Deemed Age is less than or equal to the prescribed Base Maximum Age for the post (e.g. 27 or 30 years), you are eligible! Furthermore, if the Ex-Serviceman belongs to OBC, they get an additional 3 years, and if SC/ST, an additional 5 years.
Central Government departmental candidates who have completed a minimum of 3 years of regular and continuous service in Central Govt ministries, departments, or attached offices as of the crucial cutoff date are granted an upper age ceiling relaxed up to:
- Up to 40 Years: for General (UR) and EWS candidates.
- Up to 43 Years: for OBC candidates.
- Up to 45 Years: for SC / ST candidates.
The "Crucial Date" (also called Cutoff Date or "As on Date") is the exact calendar date specified in paragraph 1 or 5 of the official exam notification. For instance, SSC CGL and UPSC CSE typically specify 1st August of the exam year, while other notifications specify 1st January or the closing date of application receipt. You must calculate your age on that exact cutoff date, regardless of when the exam is conducted.
Only the Date of Birth recorded in your Matriculation (10th Standard) / Secondary Examination Certificate or equivalent recognized board certificate is accepted by recruitment commissions (SSC, UPSC, State PSCs, IBPS, RRB). Birth certificates from municipal corporations or Aadhaar card dates are not accepted if they conflict with your 10th marksheet.
