Understanding the Calculation Logic

Based on UGC Regulations 2018 (Table 3A & 3B)

For direct recruitment of Assistant Professors in Universities and Colleges, the selection is based on a composite score out of 100.

Criteria University Cap College Cap
Academic Score 84 Marks 80 Marks
Research Publications 10 Marks (Strict Cap) 6 Marks (Strict Cap)
Teaching Experience 10 Marks 10 Marks
Total 100 100
Important Capping Rules:
  • Ph.D. + M.Phil: Maximum 30 Marks (University) or 25 Marks (College).
  • JRF/NET/SET: Maximum 7 to 10 Marks depending on category.
  • Awards: Maximum 3 Marks in total.
Official Reference

Refer to "Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges" (July 2018).

Note: Check specific University Ordinances (like DU Ordinance XXIV) as they sometimes have minor variations in shortlisting criteria.
Based on Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS)

For Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) promotions (e.g., Level 10 to 11, 11 to 12), the criteria shifts to Annual Grading and Cumulative Research Score.

Table 1: Annual Assessment

Faculty must ensure "Good" or "Satisfactory" grades in Annual Performance Assessment Reports (APAR) for the duration of the assessment period.

  • Assistant Prof (10-11): 4-5 Years
  • Assistant Prof (11-12): 5 Years
  • Associate Prof (12-13A): 3 Years
Table 2: Research Score Methodology

Research scores are calculated cumulatively. Key multipliers include:

  • Peer-Reviewed Journals: Base points depend on stream (8 for Science, 25 for Arts).
  • Impact Factor (IF) Bonus:
    • No IF: +0
    • IF < 1: +10
    • IF 1-2: +15
    • IF > 10: +30
Authorship Split:
Two Authors: 50% each.
More than Two: First/Principal gets 70%, others get 30%.

Frequently Asked Questions

Table 3A applies to University Departments where the requirements are slightly higher (e.g., PhD = 30 marks). Table 3B applies to Colleges where the caps are tighter (e.g., PhD = 25 marks). This calculator lets you toggle between them using the "Selection Criteria" box.

For CAS (Career Advancement Scheme), we follow UGC Table 2 which uses a cumulative score approach. Unlike "Fresh Recruitment" which has a cap of 10 marks for publications, CAS research scores are uncapped. You get points for every paper, book, and student guided.

Use the "Faculty Stream" toggle to switch between Science (8 pts/paper) and Arts (25 pts/paper) base scores.
