About DMER Mumbai
The Directorate of Medical Education and Research came into existence independently on 1st May, 1970. The Directorate operates and controls 52 institutions in the state, including 35 Government Medical Colleges, affiliated hospitals, 4 Government Dental Colleges and 13 Government Nursing Colleges. The main duty of this department is to provide undergraduate and postgraduate medical education to the students of Government Medical Colleges and to make them socially useful doctors. The secondary duty is to provide necessary facilities in these medical colleges as per the standards of the Indian Council of Medical Sciences and to provide referral services to the patients along with maintaining the standard of education. Patients, diseases and research related to them are an integral part of this department.
