In 1964, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board came into existence with the objective to operate and maintain the water supply, head works, distribution and sewerage system including treating the sewage before discharging into natural valleys.

In 1933, Under "Chamarajendra Water Works" a reservoir was commissioned on River Arkavathi by building a dam at Thippagondana (TG) Halli to supply 135 MLD of water.

Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) was established to provide drinking water of unquestionable quality in sufficient quantity and to treat the Sewage generated to the required standards.
