Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification
Only candidates in medical category SHAPE-I are eligible for appointment (per BSF (Law Officers) RRs-2023 as amended by RR-2026).
For Deputation / Absorption
- Category (i) – BSF Officers:
- Bachelor Degree in Law from a recognised University or Institute.
- Five years' experience after appointment in Group-A service in BSF, with a minimum of three years' experience in dealing with law.
- Category (ii) – Central Government / State Government / UT Administration Officers:
- Holding an analogous post on a regular basis in the parent cadre, OR five years' regular service in Level-10 (Rs. 56,100 – 1,77,500) in the Pay Matrix.
- Bachelor Degree in Law from a recognised University or Institute.
- Minimum six years' experience in dealing with law.
For Ex-Servicemen (Re-employment)
- Armed Forces personnel due to retire or transfer to reserve within one year, possessing the prescribed experience and qualifications, and having held an equivalent post, shall also be considered.
- Re-employment terms will run from the date of release from the Armed Forces.
Not Eligible
- Departmental candidates in the feeder category in the direct line of promotion shall not be eligible for deputation.
- Deputationists shall not be eligible for consideration by promotion to this post.
Selection Process & Screening Clause
The official notification does not specify a formal selection process for this deputation-based recruitment. Selection will be based on the screening of nominations forwarded through the proper channel, assessment of qualifications, experience, and the completeness of documents including CR dossiers, employer certificates, and the bio-data proforma.

No TA/DA will be paid for travel to and from New Delhi or any subsequent posting.

- Certificate from the Employer / Head of Office / Forwarding Authority confirming qualifications, no pending vigilance/disciplinary case, integrity, absence of penalties for 10 years, and willingness to relieve the officer if selected.
Important Instructions
- The period of deputation shall ordinarily not exceed four years.
- Appointed officers will be governed by the BSF Act and Rules and are liable to be posted anywhere in India.
- Officers must wear the uniform specified in the Border Security Force Manual Volume-VII.
- Selected officers will be governed by DOP&T OM No. 6/8/2009-Estt (Pay.II) dated 17 June 2010, as amended.
