Maharashtra Prison Department (MPD) work under the Home Department of Government of Maharashtra. The Department comprises of 9 Central Prisons, 30 District Prisons, 11 Open Prisons, 1 Open Colony and 127 Sub Jails.
The mission & vision of Maharashtra Prison Department (MPD) is to reform the Prisoners, help them reintegrate with the community & create a crime free society and, to educate prisoner and impart vocational skill enabling their rehabilitation by encouraging creative and artistic abilities of prisoner for their smooth reintegrate by organizing various job training programmes like ; Carpentry, Leatherworking, Tailoring, agriculture etc.
