Sainik School Purulia is one of the 33 Sainik Schools in the country and one of the prestigious English medium residential public schools in the state of West Bengal. It was established in the year 1962 under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence for the removal of regional imbalances in the officer‘s cadres of Defence Services in India. The school is situated in the idyllic foreground of the Ayodhya Hills, covering an area of 279 acres on the Purulia-Ranchi Road in the close vicinity Of Sidho Kanho Birsa University, 04 km away from Purulia town, which is a district headquarters.

Over the years the school proved its excellence in all spheres. With an objective to prepare the students academically, physically and mentally for entry into the National Defence Academy, the school laid emphasis on a holistic education system. The School is managed by three tier system of management ,Sainik Schools Society (Ministry of Defence) as its apex body , Local Board of Administration and the School staff comprising of Principal,Vice Principal, Administrative Officer, Academic and Administrative staff.
