Post Name: Professor Cum Director 2. No. of Post: 01 3. Qualifications: (i) An eminent scholar with Ph.D. qualification (s) in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline and published work of high quality, actively engaged in research with evidence of published work with a minimum of 10 publications in CARE listed journals / books and/or research/policy papers. (ii) A minimum of ten years of teaching experience in university/college, and/or experience in research at the University/National level institutions/industries, including experience of guiding candidates for research at doctoral level. (iii) Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology - mediated teaching learning process. (iv) A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based on Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS), 4. An outstanding professional, with established reputation in the relevant field, who has made significant contributions to the knowledge in concerned/allied /relevant discipline; to be substantiated by credentials. 5. Scale of Pay: Rs. 1,44,200-2,18,200 (Level 14) 6. Tenure: The appointment be purely for a tenure of two years and extendable for one more year by the Syndicate and be not made permanent employee of University 7. Desirable: Experience in Educational planning in areas of Pedagogy and teaching technology relating to continuing Education/Distance Education/Nonformal Education.

The University of Madras is a public state university in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Established in 1857, it is one of the oldest and among the most prominent universities in India, incorporated by an act of the Legislative Council of India under the British government.
In 1912 endowments were made to the University to establish departments of Indian History, Archaeology, Comparative Philology, and Indian Economics. In all, there were 17 University departments, 30 University teachers, 69 research scholars, and 127 University publications in that year and the budget was Rs.11 lakhs. Later, the research and teaching functions of the University were encouraged by the Sadler Commission and the gains of the University were consolidated by the enactment of the Madras University Act of 1923. At this time, the territorial ambit of Madras University encompassed Berhampur of Orissa and Hyderabad of Andhra Pradesh in the North, Trivandrum of Kerala in the South West, and Bangalore and Mangalore of Karnataka in the West.
