The Madras Bar Council came into existence when the Indian Bar Councils Act, 1926 came into force in the Presidency of Madras from 16th July, 1928. The first meeting of The Madras Bar Council was held on 9th October, 1928 and it was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Sir V.N.Cooutts Trotter, Bar-at-Law. In accordance with the Indian Bar Councils Act, 1926, Sir C.V.Anandakrishna Iyer Kt., the Advocate General of the Presidency of Madras was the first Chairman of the Madras Bar Council.
