The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) is a key administrative body under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. It is responsible for formulating and implementing policies related to the levy and collection of indirect taxes such as Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST), Customs Duty, and Central Excise Duty. CBIC plays a crucial role in enforcing tax laws, facilitating legitimate trade, and preventing smuggling and tax evasion across the country.
In addition to revenue collection, the CBIC also oversees the functioning of customs operations at ports, airports, and land borders.
