The Commercial Taxes Department is located in Rajasthan state. After Rajasthan state was formed, the excise & Taxation Department started working as the main tax Collection authority in the State, with is head office located at Udaipur. The State Excise Department was separated and Department was later reamed as Commercial Taxes Department in the Year 1964 . The department was then controlling Sales Tax, Entertainment Tax, Electricity Duty and Tax on passengers as well as on goods.

Later,again in the year 1974, the controlling of Tax of passengers as well as good shifted and was assigned to the Transport Department. The Department was also given responsibility to control the Rajasthan Tax on Entry of Motor Vehicles into local Areas Act in the year 1988. The Department has majorily contributed to the Revenue of Tax that is collected by the State Government.
