Sant Kabir Nagar Judgeship was created in the year 1998 having some part from Basti and some part of Sidhartha Nagar districts.

District Sant Kabir Nagar was created in the name of a Great Saint “Sant Kabir Das”, whose ‘Mazar and Samadhi’ are situated at Maghar. Khalilabad was declared as headquarter of this district, which was earlier a Tehsil Headquarter of Basti district. Accordingly Khalilabad has also been declared as headquarter of this Judgeship. This judgeship is surrounded by judgeships of Gorakhpur in the East, Basti in the West, Sidharth Nagar in the North and Ambedkar Nagar in the South.

Initially five Courts i.e. District and Sessions Judge, Civil Judge Senior Division, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Civil Judge Junior Division and Judicial Magistrate were notified. The presiding officers in these Courts were posted by Hon’ble High Court’s notification dated 21-01-2008. Judicial work was started from 23-01-2008 in this judgeship after inauguration on the same day.
