Educational Qualification: Acharya (Vyakaran): i) A good academic record with at least 55% marks or an equivalent of 55%, (Wherever the grading system is followed) in Acharya Degree in the relevant subject from an Indian University or an equivalent degree from Foreingn University
recognized by the Govt. of India.
(ii) A relaxation of 5% is provided from 55% to 50% marks at the Acharya Degree for the SC/ST categories. AND
(iii) A relaxation of 5% (from 55% to 50%) of marks, at the maters level to the Physically and visually handicapped persons in appointment as Acharya (Sanskrit College Cadre).
(iv) A relaxation of 5% is provided from 55% to 50% of the marks to the Ph.D. Degree holders who have passed their Acharya degree prior to Sept. 1991.
(v) “B” in the 7 point scale with letter grades O,A,C,D,E & F shall be regarded as equivalent of 55% wherever the grading system is followed (7 point scale is displayed in the foot-note).
(vi)Candidates besides fulfilling the above qualifications should have cleared the eligibility test (NET/SET) for Acharyas conducted by the UGC/State Public Service Commission.
(vii) NET/SET shall remain the compulsory requirement for appointment as Acharya for those with post-graduate degree. However, the candidates having Ph.D. degree in the concerned subject are exempted from NET/SET for PG level and UG level teaching.

About Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission
Himachal Pradesh attained statehood on 25th January, 1971. Prior to this date, the function of Public Service Commission in respect of the civil services and posts in connection with the affairs of the Union Territory of Himachal Pradesh were being discharged by the Union Public Service Commission under Article 315 of the Constitution of India. It was, therefore, incumbent on the State to have its own Public Service Commission. However, since a State Public Service Commission could be constituted simultaneously with the attainment of Statehood, the Union Public Service Commission, on a request from the Governor of the State of Himachal Pradesh with the approval of the President of India, agreed to serve the needs of Himachal Pradesh till the establishment of a Public Service Commission for the State or for a period of three months from 25th January, 1971 whichever was earlier.
Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) was established in the year 1971. Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission is involved in Recruitment and Promotion Rules, principles to be followed in making appointments, promotion and transfer from one service to another of Civil Servants. Different methods of recruitment are followed for different posts by Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission. Four methods of recruitment which are followed by HPPSC are 1) Recruitment through examination followed by Viva Voce. 2) Recruitment through examination without Viva voce. 3) Recruitment through interview preceded by screening test. 4) Recruitment through interview without conducting screening test.
