  • Educational Qualification: Must hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in relevant fields like Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, IT, or related disciplines from a recognized university. For research roles, M.Tech or Ph.D. may be required.
  • Age Limit: Typically 21-30 years for Engineer/Scientist roles. Age relaxation applies for OBC (3 years), SC/ST (5 years), and PwBD (10 years) as per government norms. A specific age limit will be mentioned in individual recruitment notifications.

Selection Procedure for Government Jobs in IT & IC Sector

The selection process varies depending on the specific organization and role:

  • Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) & Research Bodies (e.g., C-DAC, NIC, ISRO/DRDO related bodies): Primarily rely on the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) 2026 score for shortlisting candidates for engineering and scientific positions. This is often followed by a Group Discussion (GD) and/or Personal Interview (PI). Some specialized roles might use their own recruitment tests or online assessments (e.g., ICRB for ISRO Scientists).
  • Government Departments & Ministries: For roles like IT Officer or Programmer in departments, exams conducted by central agencies like SSC (Staff Selection Commission) CGL for Group B/C posts or UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) for higher-level officer roles (e.g., Scientist B, Assistant Director) might be used.
  • Merit-based/Interview: Some specialized research institutions or project-based recruitments might consider academic merit and conduct direct interviews.

Salary & Perks (7th Pay Commission)

Entry-level positions for engineers and scientists are typically placed at Level-10 of the 7th Central Pay Commission, which corresponds to the E1 Grade pay scale. The basic pay starts at ₹56,100 per month, with admissible allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and other benefits like medical facilities, transport allowance, and often company leased accommodation or HRA.
