Educational Qualification: M.A, M.Phil/Ph.D

Applications on the prescribed form (to be downloaded from the University's website i.e. http://jmi.ac.in) are invited for the appointment of One (01) Assistant Professor purely on contractual basis under the North Eastern Council (NEC) Secretariat, Shillong sponsored project entitled "Upgradation of the Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research in Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi" for a period of one year.

3. Essential Qualifications for the post of Assistant Professor:- i) Good academic record as defined by the concerned university with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) at the Master's Degree level in Social Sciences or Humanities from an Indian University or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. ii) Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR, or similar test accredited bv the UGC like SLET/SET.

iii) The award of degree to candidates registered for the M.Phil / Ph.D. program prior to July 11, 2009, shall be governed by the provisions of the then-existing Ordinances / Bylaws / Regulations of the Institutions awarding the degree and the Ph.D. candidates shall be exempted from the requirement of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities / Colleges / Institutions subject to the fulfillment of the following conditions:-

a)  Ph.D. degree of the candidate awarded in regular mode only;

b) Evaluation of the Ph.D. thesis by at least two external examiners; Open Ph.D. viva voce of the candidate had been conducted;

c) Candidate has published two research papers from his / her Ph.D. work out of which at least one must be in a referred journal;

d) Candidate has made at least two presentations in conferences/seminars, based on his / her Ph.D work.

(e) as above are to be certified by the Vice-Chancellor/Pro-Vice ffairs)/Dean (University instructions).

4. Desirable:-

a) M.A. and M.Phil. / Ph.D. Degree in Social Sciences or Humanities.

b) Applicants must have the ability to design and carry out independent research projects, a sound conceptual grounding in his/her discipline, excellent analytical and writing skills, and experience in fieldwork in the North East region of India.

c) Border trade in the North East region.

d) Applicants working on theoretical and conceptual issues related to the above area(s) (and not necessarily in the North East India context) may also be considered.

5. Monthly Remuneration:- Rs. 60,000/- (consolidated)
