About Juvenile Justice Board Recruitment

About Juvenile Justice Board

Juveniles accused of a crime or detained for a crime are brought before the JJB under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 (amended in 2006). Under this act and provisions of the Criminal Code Procedure children are not to be taken to a regular criminal court. The purpose of a separate court is that its purpose is socio-legal rehabilitation and reformation, not punishment. The aim is to hold a child culpable for their criminal activity, not through punishment, but counseling the child to understand their actions and persuade them away from criminal activities in the future.

The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) is a specialized forum that deals with cases involving minors who are accused of committing crimes. The JJB is responsible for determining the culpability of the minor and deciding on a sentence or rehabilitation program in accordance with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. The JJB is made up of a Chief Judicial Magistrate and two social workers, and it is authorized to take a range of actions, including releasing the minor on probation, ordering the minor to be placed in a children's home or juvenile justice institution, or ordering the minor to participate in a rehabilitation program. The goal of the JJB is to ensure that the rights of minors are protected and that they are given an opportunity to reform and reintegrate into society.
