About Maharashtra SRPF

The State Reserve Police Force or SRPF as it is popularly known was raised on 6th March 1948 as a Special Armed Police Force of the State of Maharashtra. In order to make Maharashtra self-sufficient in matters of Internal Security, two units were raised at Purandar and Sambre (Belgaum, Karnataka). After the re-organization of States, the strength of the force increased with the amalgamation of the armed Police Units from Old Hyderabad State Police Force and Central Province and Berar. During the mid-1970s, the onerous duties of guarding vital installations like BARC and the Bombay Airport also led to the expansion of the force. The advent of Naxalism in Maharashtra in the form of the Peoples War Group brought about further expansion in the SRPF units and Groups were raised at Hingoli and Gadchiroli.

Selection Procedure for SRPF Recruitment

The selection process for SRPF vacancies generally involves multiple stages:

  1. Online Application: Candidates need to register and submit their applications through the official Maharashtra Police or SRPF recruitment portal.
  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) & Physical Standard Test (PST): This is the initial stage to ensure candidates meet the required physical benchmarks.
  3. Written Examination: A competitive exam often tests General Knowledge, Aptitude, Marathi Language, and reasoning ability. The syllabus and pattern depend on the post. For PSI, a more in-depth exam including Marathi, English, General Studies and Aptitude may be conducted.
  4. Document Verification: Successful candidates from the written test are then called for verification of their original documents.
  5. Medical Examination: A thorough medical check-up to ensure fitness for service.

Crucially, Maharashtra SRPF recruitment does NOT utilize external scores like GATE, NET, or employ agencies like IBPS or SSC for its primary uniformed cadre. Selection is direct through their own conducted examination and physical tests.
