The Central Government launched the National Rural Livelihoods Mission in 2011 to eradicate poverty in the rural areas of the state. In order to implement this scheme in Maharashtra, an independent organization Maharashtra State Rural Livelihood Mission has been established ( Charity Registration Act, 1860) by the Rural Development Department, GoM. Under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister. The mission is being implemented in 34 Districts and 351 Blocks of the state. The Mission is committed to lift 71 lakh poor families out of poverty in the state of Maharashtra through sustainable livelihood.

For this, strong community level organizations of poor are being created, various pilot projects and partnerships with voluntary, government as well as private organizations are undertaken with the help of conversant manpower resource development at all stages, The sustainable livelihoods is been created with the help of timely finance through various financial institutions and banks in a timely manner at affordable interest rates and through regular financing of various government schemes and through continuous capacity building of the stake holders to get access to various government schemes for their benefit.
