Then it was named as North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine (NEIFM). During August, 2021 the Union Cabinet accorded approval to expand the mandate of the Institute and incorporated Ayurveda academic courses. With this, the nomenclature of the Institute was changed to The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Folk Medicine Research. The Institute intends to document and assess Local Health Traditions, Healing Knowledge, Drugs Therapeutic product development based on Traditional knowledge, protection of Traditional Knowledge through IPR regime, support conservation and sustainable use of Traditional Practices, Biodiversity, etc. The Institute will also provide Undergraduate courses and quality patient care service under the Ayurvedic system of medicines. The Institute has been registered as Society with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
