The Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun invites online application from INDIAN NATIONALS for engaging Nine - 09 researchers as (06) Project Associate – I (Ecology), one (01) Project Associate – I (Ecology - Bioacoustics), one (01) Project Associate – II (SRF) (Ecology), and one (01) Principal Project Associate (Ecology), for various projects on purely contractual basis.

i. The period of the contractual engagement will initially be for a period of 01 (one) year, which is most likely to be extended based on the candidate’s performance and project needs. The EQ, DQ, age, monthly emoluments and other details of the position are as provided below:

1. Name of the Position: Project Associate – II (SRF) (Ecology)

2. Project No 3 Response to Anthropocene and Climate change: Movement ecology of selected mammal species across the Indian Himalayan Region

3. Duration: Two (02) years

4. No of positions: 01

5. Essential Qualification:

Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University. Two years of research experience Candidates with a Masters’ Degree in Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Genetics/ Molecular Biology/ Veterinary Sciences and/or who are pursuing or have completed their PhD need not apply for this post.

6. Desired Qualifications:

Candidate(s) with prior experience in sampling design and animal abundance estimation are preferred. Prior experience of sampling using camera trapping, distance sampling and radiotelemetry. Knowledge of GIS and GPS is desirable. Should be able to undertake arduous field work under rigorous conditions.

7. Description of Work:

The proposed project aims to study the movement ecology of selected mammal species with different ecological adaptations across the IHR. The selected mammal species are Pallas’s cat (Otocolobus manul), Himalayan wolf (Canis lupus) and Himalayan marmot (Marmota himalayana). The work involves capture and tagging of target species and intensive monitoring in tough and rugged terrain of Ladakh India.

8. Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 35,000 + HRA
