About MSCWB
The Calcutta Municipal Service Commission was established in the year 1954 for recruitment of personnel for Kolkata Municipal Corporation and continued to exist upto 31.01.1985. After that the Commission was re-named as Municipal Service Commission under the Calcutta Municipal Corporation Act, 1980 in the year 1984 and started to function from 01.02.1985 and existed upto 01.01.2019. The present West Bengal Municipal Service Commission was constituted under West Bengal Municipal Service Commission Act, 2018 and stated functioning from 02.01.2019 for direct recruitment of personnel for prescribed categories of post and services (except Group D Post and Exempted Category post) in the establishment of Urban Local Bodies (Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, Notified Area Authorities and Industrial Township Authorities), Development Authorities and also establishments of different Organisations under the Urban development and Municipal Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal.
With the enactment of West Bengal Municipal Service Commission Act, 2018, the scope and periphery of the activities of the Commission as a Recruiting Authority has been radically changed.
