India celebrates three national holidays every year; in January, we celebrate Republic Day to honour the creation of our constitution. Independence Day is celebrated in August to honour freedom from the United Kingdom. Finally, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated in October.
Government official sources said a total of 27 holidays have been announced for the State government offices, and Revenue and Magisterial Courts (Executive). As many as 18 holidays have been declared for the banks and other banking institutions in the State. The sources added May 16, the birthday of Pandit Raghunath Murmu has been declared as a holiday for the Calendar Year 2022. Baisakha Purnima and Budhha Jayanti also fall on the same day.
Some holidays are specific only to the state of Odisha and only observed in the state.
