BDS stands for Bachelor degree in Dental Science. It includes the identification and treatment of problems related to teeth and oral cavity. BDS degree is good qualification to hold for good career in medical sector. BDS candidates can do specialization or higher studies in any of the following areas such as: Prosthodontics, Preventive Dentistry, Periodontics, Pedodontics, Orthodontics, Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Operative Dentistry, Implant Dentistry, Forensic Dentistry, Endodontics, Crown & Bridge Dentistry, Cosmetic & Esthetic Dentistry and Community Dentistry. They can work in government hospitals, dental colleges, Research and advisory departments. Industries manufacturing oral care products and medicines also hire BDS passed candidates. The candidate can work in Forensic department and in Research firms. Clearing Combined Medical Services examination helps them in getting good position in government jobs. BDS candidate can work in Army Dental Corps as Dentist, but passing UPSC examination is compulsory for the post. Other than this, the candidate can appear for exams carried out by SSC, PSC, etc. Defense and Ordnance factories also hire dentistry professionals.
