Online applications are invited from eligible, young, bright and highly motivated individuals for the following position to work at Vainu Bappu Observatory (VBO), Kavalur Advt. No.IIA/07/2022 1. Position : Research Trainee (Observations) 2. No. of position : Two 3. Remuneration : Rs. 30,000/- per month (Consolidated) 4. Place of Posting : VBO, Kavalur 5. Qualification : MSc in Physics / Astrophysics with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University/Institution. 6. Experience : Candidates with work experience in astronomical observations/telescopes/data analyses will be given preference. Proof of the work experience should be enclosed while applying for the post. 7. Job Description : The positions are for carrying out astronomical observations with telescopes at night. The candidates should be fit enough and willing to work full night (up to 12 hours).

The Indian Institute of Astrophysics is a premier institute devoted to research in astronomy, astrophysics and related physics. It traces its origins back to an observatory set up in 1786 at Madras which from the year 1792 began to formally function at its Nungambakkam premises as the Madras Observatory. In 1899, the observatory moved to Kodaikanal. In the year 1971, the Kodaikanal Observatory became an autonomous society, the Indian Institute of Astrophysics. The headquarters were shifted to Bengaluru into its present campus in Koramangala in 1975. Today, funded by the Department of Science and Technology, the Institute ranks as a premier institution devoted to research and education of astronomy and physics in the country. The main observing facilities of the Institute are located at Kodaikanal, Kavalur,Gauribidanur and Hanle.
