Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification

• Professor:
  • Medical Candidates: MBBS (Schedule I & II or Part II of Third Schedule of Indian Medical Council Act 1956; FMGE-qualified Foreign Medical Graduates must hold NMC/SMC registration) + MD/MS/DNB in concerned specialisation and/or M.Ch / DM in relevant super-speciality.
  • Non-Medical Candidates: PhD degree in the concerned specialisation.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years as Associate Professor in a recognised Medical College/Institution; minimum 2 research publications post-Associate Professor meeting NMC authorship criteria; Basic Course in Medical Education Technology and Basic Course in Biomedical Research from NMC-designated institutions.
• Associate Professor:
  • Medical Candidates: Same academic qualification as above (MBBS + MD/MS/DNB / M.Ch / DM).
  • Non-Medical Candidates: PhD in the concerned specialisation.
  • Experience: Minimum 4 years as Assistant Professor (or 5 years if directly appointed as Assistant Professor in a Government medical institution); minimum 2 research publications post-Assistant Professor per NMC criteria; Basic Course certificates in Medical Education Technology and Biomedical Research from NMC-designated institutions.
• Assistant Professor:
  • Medical Candidates: MBBS + MD/MS/DNB in concerned specialisation.
  • Non-Medical Candidates: MSc in Biotechnology/Zoology/Biochemistry/Microbiology/Molecular Biology/Medical Genetics + PhD in related fields + 3 years post-PhD research experience.
  • Experience: 1 year as Senior Resident in the concerned subject in a recognised Medical College/Institution.
• Senior Resident (3-year contract, yearly renewal basis):
  • Medical Candidates: MBBS (FMGE-qualified FMGs must hold NMC/SMC registration) + Registration with Central/State Medical Council + PG Degree (MD/MS/DNB) in the speciality from an NMC-recognised institute.
  • Non-Medical Candidates: MSc in Biotechnology/Zoology/Biochemistry/Microbiology/Molecular Biology/Medical Genetics + PhD in related fields + 3 years post-PhD research experience. (Eligible only for Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Pathology departments.)

Selection Process & Screening Clause

• Application Screening: If the number of applications received for any specialisation is large, IIT Kharagpur reserves the right to shortlist candidates based on qualification, experience, age, and publication record. Mere eligibility does not guarantee an interview call.
• Selection Committee Evaluation: Selected candidates will be evaluated by a Selection Committee constituted by the Institute. The committee may relax qualifications/ experience for exceptionally meritorious candidates or practitioners.
• Online Application Review: Incomplete applications or those lacking attested certificates will be rejected. Candidates applying for multiple posts must apply separately for each post.
• Interview / Presentation: Shortlisted candidates may be required to attend an interview or a presentation/seminar. Exact scheduling will be communicated individually by the Department concerned.
• Proper Channel / NOC: Government / Semi-Government / Autonomous Body employees must apply through proper channel or submit a No Objection Certificate at the time of interview.
• No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview/selection process.
