About Institute of Wood Science and Technology

Institute of Wood Science and Technology (IWST) Bangalore was established in the year 1938, work under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), The Ministry of Environment of Forest, Government of India.The aim of the institute is to develop strategies for sustainable use and production of wood and other forest products.

The vision and mission of the institute are to generate, preserve disseminate and advance knowledge, technologies and solutions for regarding issues arising out of the interaction between people forest and environment on a sustained basis through research education and extension.

The main objective of the institute is to conduct research on Wood Science and Technology as a national objective, which emphasis on research related to forestry, forest product and non-wood forest products, improved utilisation of wood management and control ecology, research on the sandal, etc.

The institute offers Ph.D. and various Research Programmes in the discipline of Silviculture, Forest Seed Technology, Forest Genetics, Forest Botany, Forest Pathology, Forest Entomology, Soil Science, Forest Environment & Ecology, Forest Management, Chemistry of Forest Products, Pulp & Paper Technology, Environmental Management, Forest Bio Informatics, etc.
