The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) is the first Institute of its kind to be set up at in the State of Bihar in the year 2007. It is an autonomous institution of national importance, established under the aegis of Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Govt. of India under NIPER Act 1998 at Hajipur in Vaishali District of Bihar. It is a centre of excellence for higher education, research and development in pharmaceutical sciences, conceived to provide leadership in pharmaceutical sciences and other related areas.
The Institute is presently rendering it academic and research activities through three departments viz, (i) Biotechnology (2007 onwards), (ii) Pharmacy Practice (2007 onwards), new incepted Pharmacology & Toxicology in 2018 with intake capacity of 16 PG seats in each Department and a total of 6 Ph.D. seats.
The Institute was under the Mentorship of Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences (RMRIMS), Patna till 31.10.2018. Now, the NIPER's own first Director has taken the charge from 01.11.2018 and the Institution is under infused with zeal and vigour in achieving newer heights in academics and research, along with administrative good office procedures and health.
