PILBS Recruitment 2026: Vacancy, Eligibility & Selection Process

Hepatobiliary diseases are a common cause of morbidity and mortality in our country. The state of Punjab has a high burden of liver diseases. This is mainly due to the high prevalence of hepatitis, alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases. The treatment of these diseases is limited to a handful of tertiary care centers. There is a great unmet need for a specialized public sector institute to cater to this huge patient burden, as well as act as a Centre of excellence to lead research, training, and therapeutics in the field. An academic hospital and research institute dedicated to hepatobiliary and pancreatic sciences, with state-of-art facilities to cater to this complex population, provide comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, interdisciplinary care, and advanced clinical and translational research is the aim of this Institute.

The above requirements can be met with, if we develop an autonomous body under the Government of Punjab initially funded by the Government for 5 years and after 5 years it should be self-sustaining.

Central tenets of the institution will be that (1) All assessment and management under one roof (2) Minimize patient visits, optimize each visit (3) Focus on dignity and quality of life (4) Honest, transparent discussions with patient as the primary recipient, not caregivers.

The Punjab Government has decided to establish the Punjab Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (PILBS) in Mohali. The project is to be funded by State Government. The Government has made the announcement in Budget session of 2022.
