Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Aquaculture (RGCA) is Research & Development center particularly for the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), Ministry of Commerce & Industry. The Marine Products Export Development Authority was inspired by the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's idea of making India an advanced nation in technology, and so came into existence the Centre of Excellence in Aquaculture and devoted it to development of the Indian Aquaculture Industry. RGCA functions like a society, that is registered under Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975 from January 5th 1996. RGCA has its involvement in the creation of different Sustainable Aquaculture Technologies which are bio secure, eco friendly, traceable and with low carbon outputs, for the production of seed and growing out farming of different aquatic species, which are exported regularly.

RGCA is controlled by an Executive Committee that consist of members from offices of the MPEDA, MoC & I, ICAR, DBT, Commissioner of Fisheries from the states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu & Gujarat etc
