Acharya Nagarjuna University was inaugurated on 11th September, 1976 by the former President of India, Sri Fakruddin Ali Ahmed with 10 post-graduate courses. The university has 29 academic departments that have self-financed courses operating since 1992.
The university is named after great Buddhist philosopher Acharya Nagarjuna. The Buddhists of China, Japan and Tibet river him to be the Second Buddha, who once again set in the motion the wheel of Dharma.
