Eligibility for Chief Mechanical Engineer

• Essential Qualification: Degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics & Communication Engineering/Naval Architecture from a recognised University/Institution OR MOT 1st Class Motor Certificate issued under Merchant Shipping Act 1958.
• Experience (Direct Recruitment): Fifteen years’ experience in managerial capacity dealing with Mechanical/Electrical/Marine/Electronics Engineering works. Out of the above, 8 years’ experience shall be in workshops undertaking maintenance of cargo handling equipment/ Electrical Installations/ Ship Repairs in any Major Port Trusts/Industrial/Commercial/Government Undertaking.
• Experience (Absorption via Composite Method): Officers holding posts in scale Rs. 90,000 – 2,40,000 with two years’ regular service; OR Rs. 80,000 – 2,20,000 with three years’ regular service in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering/Marine Department (Marine Engineers only) in a Major Port.
• Experience (Deputation): Officers holding posts of Chief Mechanical Engineer (Rs. 1,00,000 – 2,60,000) with two years’ regular service; OR Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer (Rs. 80,000 – 2,20,000 and above) with five years’ regular service in Central/State Govt/UT/PSUs/Autonomous Bodies (other than Major Ports).
• Age Limit: Upper age limit for direct recruitment is 45 years. Crucial date: 13.03.2026.
• Selection Criteria: Overall APAR/ACR grading benchmark shall not be below "Very Good".
