The Directorate of Medical Education Assam, training and research, Assam was established by the Government of state in year 1984 under the control of Health & Family welfare Department.
It was established to promote research in the field of Medical Science in the state of Assam, for development of human resources in medical science through different institution under it such as Assam Medical College, Jorhat medical college etc. The Directorate also oversees the undergraduate, post- graduate & Diploma admission into the various courses of medical college, RDC,RNC,Nursing Colleges, Pharmacy institutes of paramedical science & medical institute.
The Directorate also promotes expertise in medical science in different streams like Allopathic, Ayurvedic, and Homoeopathic medical and paramedical science.
The Administrative control of over all the college and hospitals are under the control of the Directorate of medical Education
