The Indian Institute of Oilseed Research (IIOR) is operating as All India Coordinated Research Project on Oilseed (AICAR),was established on 1st August 1977, comes under the Directorate of National Research Center (DNRC), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Directorate is an autonomous organisation Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.

The aim of Directorate is to impart skill in seed production of Oilseed Crops by providing knowledge on manufacturing, maintenance of seed quality and purity in Oilseed Crops.
The prime objective of Directorate of Oilseeds is to provide basic and strategic research to boost the productivity of Castor, Sunflower, Safflower, Sesame, Niger and Linseed to enhance oilseed production by Planning, Coordinating and Monitoring of Applied Research on the issues related to National as well as regional areas of Cultivation.
