ECHS functions through a network of polyclinics across India, along with tie-ups with private hospitals and diagnostic centers to expand its reach and accessibility.
The ECHS is contributory in nature, with a one-time subscription based on the rank of the retiree, allowing lifetime membership for beneficiaries. This scheme greatly enhances the post-retirement welfare of armed forces personnel, reducing the burden of medical expenses and ensuring dignified healthcare access. Beneficiaries are issued ECHS smart cards, which are essential for availing services at empaneled facilities.
