Educational Qualification:
1. Master's degree with at least 60% marks or equivalent in a point grading system in the subject concerned or related field with Bachelor's Degree in Fisheries Science. A relaxation of 5% marks may be provided at the Graduate and Master's level for the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Differently-abled (Physically and visually differently-abled).
2. (i) The NET/SLET will be an essential qualification for ICAR/UGC/CSIR or any other Central/State Govt. Agency. (ii) For the candidates having a Master's degree, NET (National Eligibility Test)/SLET shall remain compulsory along with one publication in NAAS (National Academy of Agricultural Science, New Delhi) related refereed Journal. The essentiality of NET is waived off for the candidates holding a Ph.D. degree with course work along with at least two full-length publications having a NAAS rating not less than 4, on the last date of submission of application. The candidates with Ph.D. degrees without course work will not qualify for the NET exemption.

After independence, development of the rural sector was considered the primary concern of the Government of India. In 1949, with the appointment of the Radhakrishnan University Education Commission, imparting of agricultural education through the setting up of rural universities became the focal point. Later, in 1954 an Indo-American team led by Dr. K.R. Damle, the Vice-President of ICAR, was constituted that arrived at the idea of establishing a Rural University on the land-grant pattern of USA. As a consequence a contract between the Government of India,
Govind Ballabh Pant University Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) was established on 17th November 1960. It is located in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. It provides both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in Agriculture.
