Highways Department of Tamil Nadu Comes into existence in year 1946. The objective of the Department are to maintain and improve the road under the control of State Government.

The vision of Department is to increase the capacity, connectivity, efficiency and safety of the highways system and to enhance the balance of socio-economic development of all section of the people and all region of the State.

The Department is responsible for construction and maintenance of road including National Highways, State Highways, and operates through seven wings namely National Highway Wing, Construction & Maintenance Wing, NABARD and Rural Roads Wing, Project Wing, Metro Wing.
