Educational Qualification: BCA, B.Tech/B.E, M.Sc, MCA
Online applications are invited from eligible young, bright and highly motivated individuals for the following position to work in the Institute:
1. Name of the position: Engineer Trainee (IT Support)
2. No. of position : One
3. Remuneration : Rs. 30,000/- per month (Consolidated)
4. Place of Posting : Bengaluru
5. Qualification :
a) Essential: B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc or equivalent in the field of Electronics and Telecommunication/Computer Science/IT with a recommended minimum of 60%* marks from a recognized University/Institution. OR BCA/MCA with minimum of 60%* marks from a recognized University/Institution. * Percentage of marks is relaxable if candidate's technical experience is exceptional.
b) Desirable: Redhat Certified Engineer (RHCE) Certification.
6. Desirable Experience : Candidates having working experience in the field of computer networking, hardware and OS Support will get preference.
7. Scope of work :
To support laptop and desktop installation troubleshooting and maintenance with Linux and Windows OS. Installation of required applications on laptops and desktops. LAN troubleshooting and maintenance. Candidates may be asked to visit the field stations if required/needed.
8. Job Description :
i. Must be proficient in troubleshooting hardware and network problems (including WiFi and Ethernet) in both Windows and Linux environments on both Laptops and Desktops. Must have worked with different flavours of Linux. Must be able to configure printers (CUPS) in linux and windows environment.
ii. Must be able to install packages using YUM/binary package installation in Linux. Must have basic experience in handling DHCP and DNS configuration in Linux.
iii. Candidates must be acquainted with the partitioning schemes in Linux and must be able to perform dual boot Linux and Windows installations on both Laptops and Desktops. Networking skills is a must.

Selection Procedure
It is open to the Institute to conduct written test to shortlist the candidates for interview in case the attendance of candidates is more.

The Indian Institute of Astrophysics is a premier institute devoted to research in astronomy, astrophysics and related physics. It traces its origins back to an observatory set up in 1786 at Madras which from the year 1792 began to formally function at its Nungambakkam premises as the Madras Observatory. In 1899, the observatory moved to Kodaikanal. In the year 1971, the Kodaikanal Observatory became an autonomous society, the Indian Institute of Astrophysics. The headquarters were shifted to Bengaluru into its present campus in Koramangala in 1975. Today, funded by the Department of Science and Technology, the Institute ranks as a premier institution devoted to research and education of astronomy and physics in the country. The main observing facilities of the Institute are located at Kodaikanal, Kavalur,Gauribidanur and Hanle.
