The ninth Indian Institute of Management was established at Ranchi in 2009. This was made possible with the extensive support of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and the Government of Jharkhand, working under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (IIM Ranchi) was established in the year 2010. IIM Ranchi is located in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Admission to courses at IIM Ranchi is done based upon merit in Common Admission Test, conducted by the various IIMs. IIM Ranchi awards only diplomas, and not degrees.The programmes offered are post graduate diploma in management (PGDM), human resource management (PGDHRM), a full-time doctoral programme (FPM) and a part-time executive program (PGEXP), Fellow Programme in Management.
