The Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS) is a premier national-level museum located in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. Established in 1977, it is dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the diverse cultural heritage of India's indigenous communities.
The museum's primary objective is to portray the rich and varied lifestyles, traditions, and beliefs of different tribes and ethnic groups that constitute the cultural mosaic of India. It aims to create awareness and understanding of the cultural diversity and heritage of the country among visitors.
IGRMS showcases an extensive collection of ethnographic artifacts, archaeological specimens, photographs, and audio-visual materials, representing various aspects of tribal life, art, crafts, and rituals. The museum's exhibits are organized thematically, providing insights into indigenous knowledge systems, social structures, economic practices, and ecological wisdom.
The sprawling campus of IGRMS covers an area of around 200 acres, which includes a museum complex, open-air exhibition areas, a research center, an auditorium, and a library. The museum's architectural design reflects the traditional building styles of different regions of India, creating a harmonious blend of aesthetics and cultural representation.
