About Karnataka Biodiversity Board

Karnataka Biodiversity Board was introduced by Karanataka State Government on 1st August 2003. The prime objective of the Board is to foster the institutional setup for sustainable use and development of rich Biodiversity of the Karnataka.

Karnataka Biodiversity Board function as adviser to state Government on any matter concerning conservation of Biodiversity, sustainable use of its Components and fair & equitable sharing of benefits, and then provide technical assistance and guidance to the department of the State Government.

Karnataka Biodiversity Board offers recruitment opportunities for several posts such as Technical Executive & Consultant, Jr.Clerk, Accountant and Translator, Assistant Executive etc.
India is rich in biological diversity and associated traditional knowledge. India is party to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity signed at Rio de Janeiro on the 5th day of June 1992. Convention has the main objective of conservation of biological diversity, sustainable use of its components and fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of utilization of genetic resources. Convention reaffirms the sovereign rights of the States over their biological resources.

The Karnataka Biodiversity Board was established as per Section 22 of the Biological Diversity Act 2002 (No:FEE/125/ENV/2003 dated 19/06/2003) on June 2003 and started functioning from 1st August 2003.

Initially the Board constituted Five official and Five Non Official Members with the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment as per No:FEE/125/ENV/2003 dated 21/11/2003)
