National Institute Of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) Invites Application for Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2022

1. Project Description: Cancer of ‘gingivobuccal’ region of oral cavity accounts for about 60% of oral cancer in India. Even with the advancement in treatment modality, it is estimated that over 5 people succumb to oral cancer in India, every hour every day.

i. Therefore, gaining insights into the biology of ‘gingivobuccal oral cancer’ would provide us the rational for better therapeutic strategies, benefiting these patients.

ii. Stem cell-like properties’ or ‘stemness’ in cancer cells is demonstrated to be responsible for cancer initiation, progression, resistance to therapy and recurrence in a variety of cancer including oral cancer.

iii. Therefore, targeting ‘stemness’ among other hallmarks of cancer may be most logical approach for novel drug discovery.

iv. This project funded by DST-SERB will focus on the understanding of the fundamental mechanisms responsible for maintaining stemness and its plastic behaviour in driving intra-tumoral heterogeneity and its potential molecular targets.

4. Consolidated Remuneration [INR] per month:

31,000/- + HRA (As admissible) to be given who are selected through (a) National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or (b) A selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions.

5. Essential Qualifications:

i) Master’s Degree in Natural or Agricultural Sciences / MVSc or bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognized University or equivalent

ii) (a) National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or

(b) A selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions

5. Desirable Qualifications: A prior experience of animal cell culture/ flow cytometry/ molecular biology techniques/Bioinformatic analysis is desirable.

6. Nature of Duty: Person hired will be responsible for day to day research activities as required for the proposed project including collection and processing of samples from nearby collaborating clinical centers.

7. These positions are contractual, and appointments will be initially given for one year, which are extendable depending upon performance and requirements of the project.
