Note: Out of the total 27 posts, 2 posts are reserved horizontally for Ex-Servicemen (ESM). Posts are at CSIR-CMERI, Durgapur and its Extension Centre at Ludhiana, Punjab. Pay Level: Level-2 (₹19,900 – ₹63,200) with approx. total emoluments of ₹39,000 per month.

Educational Qualification & Experience:SSC/10th Standard with Science subjects (minimum 55% marks) along with an ITI/Trade Certificate OR 2 years of Apprentice Trainee experience OR 3 years of work experience in the relevant trade from a recognized institution/Government organization.
Age Limit:Minimum 18 years and Maximum 28 years as on 03.08.2026. Relaxations for SC/ST, OBC-NCL, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, and Departmental candidates as per Government of India rules.
Salary & Emoluments:
Pay Level-2 (₹19,900 – ₹63,200) as per 7th CPC. Approximate total emoluments: ₹39,000 per month (inclusive of Basic Pay, DA, HRA, and TA). Usual allowances (DA, HRA, TA), medical benefits, LTC, and House Building Advance are admissible as per CSIR rules.
Selection Procedure:
- Screening of online applications by a Screening Committee.
- Trade Test (Qualifying in nature) for shortlisted candidates.
- Competitive Written Examination (Objective Type) for candidates who qualify in the Trade Test.
Application Fee (Non-Refundable): ₹500/- for all candidates except Ex-Servicemen, SC, ST, Women, and PwBD candidates (who are exempted). Fee must be paid online through SBI Collect only.

- Register Online: Click on the application link to register. A valid email ID is mandatory. Note down the Registration ID and password.
- Fill the Application Form: Log in and fill the online application form with accurate personal, educational, and experience details. Upload a recent photograph and signature as per specifications.
- Pay Application Fee: Pay the fee online through SBI Collect (if applicable). Download the e-receipt and upload it in the application.
- Upload Documents: Upload self-attested scanned copies of all required documents (educational certificates, experience certificates, caste/PwBD/ESM certificates, NOC if applicable, etc.).
- Submit Application: Review all details and submit the application. No modifications are allowed after final submission. Take a printout of the completed application.
- Submit Before Deadline: The application window is open from 4 July 2026 (10:00 AM) to 13 September 2026 (5:00 PM).

In India, mechanical engineering technology has accounted for nearly half of the total technology imported. In terms of products, nearly one third of the value of total imports is for mechanical engineering equipment. In order to develop indigenously mechanical engineering technology for the industries so that R&D can play a key role in self-reliance, the Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute at Durgapur, West Bengal was established in February 1958 with the specific task of development of mechanical engineering technology.
