The Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) is a national centre for information, education and research in ornithology and natural history. It was inspired by and named in honour of Salim Ali. It was established in the year 1990. SACON headquarters is located at Anaikatti,Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

The core objectives of SACON are:
Design and conduct research in ornithology, Develop and conduct regular courses in ornithology and natural history for MSc, MPhil and PhD candidates and short-term orientation courses in the above subjects; Create a databank on Indian ornithology and natural history; Disseminate knowledge relating to ornithology and natural history.

Research activities are coordinated by five research divisions, namely conservation ecology, Ecotoxicology, Environmental impact assessment, Landscape ecology and Restoration ecology. Inside the divisions there are research programmes in: Avian ecology and endangered bird conservation, Man and biodiversity conservation, Wetlands conservation, Environmental contamination and biodiversity, Environmental Impact Assessment, Modelling and simulation and Nature Education.
