The Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level Exam (SSC CGL) is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to recruit candidates for various Group B and C posts in government departments and ministries. The exam is held in four tiers – Tier-I, Tier-II, Tier-III, and Tier-IV. Candidates who qualify for all the tiers are then appointed to the desired post.

Eligibility Criteria for SSC CGL
Candidates who wish to appear for the SSC CGL exam must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:
Educational Qualification
SSC CGL Post | Educational Qualifications |
Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) | Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University with a minimum 60% in Mathematics in Class 12th OR Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with Statistics as one of the subjects in graduation |
Assistant Audit Officer | Essential Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University. Desirable Qualification: CA/ CS/ MBA/ Cost & Management Accountant/ Masters in Commerce/ Masters in Business Studies |
Compiler Posts | Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University with Economics or Statistics Mathematics as a compulsory or Elective Subject |
All Other Posts | Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University or equivalent |
Salary
- Pay Level-8: Rs. 47600 to 151100
- Pay Level-7: Rs. 44900 to 142400
- Pay Level-6: Rs. 35400 to 112400
- Pay Level-5: Rs. 29200 to 92300
- Pay Level-4: Rs. 25500 to 81100
Age Limit
The age limit for the SSC CGL exam is 18-32 years. Age relaxation is provided to candidates belonging to certain categories, as per government rules.

SSC CGL Application Process

Application Fee
The application fee for the SSC CGL exam is Rs. 100 for general category candidates. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD and women candidates are exempted from paying the fee.
SSC CGL Exam Pattern
The SSC CGL exam is conducted in four tiers. Here’s the exam pattern for each tier:
Tier-I
- The exam is conducted online and consists of 100 multiple-choice questions.
- The duration of the exam is 60 minutes.

Tier-II
- The exam is conducted online and consists of four papers – Paper-I (Quantitative Abilities), Paper-II (English Language and Comprehension), Paper-III (Statistics), and Paper-IV (General Studies – Finance and Economics).
- The duration of each paper is 2 hours.
- The maximum marks for each paper are 200.
Tier-III
- The exam is a descriptive paper conducted offline.
- Candidates have to write an essay, letter, or application.
- The duration of the exam is 60 minutes.
- The maximum marks for the exam are 100.
Tier-IV
- The exam is a Computer Proficiency Test/Skill Test.
- It is conducted for specific posts.
- The maximum marks for the exam are 100.

Tier-I Syllabus

Candidates have to write an essay, letter, or application in English or Hindi.
