Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for Trainee Pilot

  • Essential Qualification:
    • Must be an Indian National.
    • Must possess a Master (FG) Certificate of Competency (COC).
    • Indian citizens with a foreign COC must possess a relevant endorsement from DG Shipping, Government of India.
  • Experience: One year post-qualification experience as Master / Chief Officer of a foreign-going ship. Additionally, one year sailing experience as Chief Officer and above in Foreign Going Ship post possessing the Master (FG) COC.
  • Age Limit: Not more than 55 years at the time of entry into Pilotage service (Upper age limit up to 65 years subject to medical examination).
  • Medical: Candidates must undergo regular and periodical medical examination as prescribed by the Port.

Important Instructions

  • Application Process: Candidates must take a printout of the Application Form (Annexure I) available at www.vocport.gov.in. The duly filled form, affixed with a recent passport-size photograph, along with self-attested copies of educational/experience/age certificates and other related documents, must be sent to the Deputy Conservator, V.O.Chidambaranar Port Authority, Administrative Office Building, Harbour Estate, Tuticorin — 628 004.
  • Verification: Original documents must be produced for verification at the time of the interview.
  • Tenure: The contract is for a period of three (3) years from the date of joining. The Pilot must serve for a minimum of two (2) years from the date of issuance of the pilotage license.
  • Allowances: No travelling, boarding, or lodging expenses are admissible.
