The Computer Knowledge Module and the Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) are mandatory components within Paper-I of the Tier-II examination for all posts, but they are only qualifying in nature and are critical for specific posts.

• Computer Knowledge Module (CKM): This test is mandatory for all candidates for all posts, and marks obtained are included in the final merit calculation. However, candidates must achieve a minimum qualifying threshold in this module for selection to any post.
• Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) / Data Entry Skill Test: This module is mandatory for all candidates but is primarily a qualifying test.

Mandatory Skill Requirement: Qualifying in DEST/Skill Test is mandatory for specific posts, notably Tax Assistant (CBDT and CBIC) and Assistant Section Officer (ASO) in CSS/MEA.
Speed Standard: The DEST typically requires a data entry speed of 2000 key depressions in 15 minutes.

Failure to qualify in the DEST/Skill Test, where required, will lead to ineligibility for those specific posts, irrespective of the high score in the merit-determining sections.
