The Andaman & Nicobar Police (A&N Police) is the primary law enforcement agency responsible for maintaining peace, security, and order across the geographically isolated and strategically crucial archipelago of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Functioning directly under the administrative jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the force has a rich history that traces back to 1875 when the British colonial administration formalised local law enforcement to govern the penal settlement. Operating under the official motto "Nirbhay-Nipun-Nirpaksh" (Fearless, Skilled, Impartial), the force manages a unique multi-terrain operational theater spanning hundreds of islands, requiring highly specialized units to secure both remote internal land borders and sprawling maritime coastlines.
Structurally, the agency is headed by a Director General of Police (DGP) and divided into three key districts: South Andaman, North & Middle Andaman, and Nicobar. Given the archipelago's deep oceanic context, the A&N Police features a unique setup including the Police Marine Force, Police Radio Organization, and dedicated Jarawa Protection Posts tasked with safeguarding the region’s vulnerable indigenous tribes. From combating maritime poaching and coordinating rescue missions during tropical disturbances to running modern cyber cells and counter-human trafficking units, the force seamlessly balances standard municipal policing with complex national security imperatives across India's southeastern maritime frontier.

The Andaman and Nicobar Police is the law enforcing agency for the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. An organized form of Policing was established in August, 1875. The Mission of Andaman and Nicobar Police is to provide quality service in line with the objectives of the Police Force. Areas of priority are - Enhancing investigating and crime solving abilities by use of modern methods, developing a problem solving approach, Strengthening the operational capabilities of the police force through use of latest technology, Increased use of Information Technology in police work. A Police Training School was established by drawing competent trainers out of existing force and it started functioning at Port Blair with the available infrastructure.
