Overview
Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi has issued Advertisement No. 04/2024-25 dated 19 September 2026, inviting online applications for 66 temporary contract posts at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), RGSC, Barkachha, Mirzapur, and under various ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Projects (AICRPs). Positions span Academic Levels 14 through L-1, covering scientific, technical, and non-teaching cadres.
All appointments are on a contract basis for a maximum of five years, co-terminus with the respective project or post. There is no possibility of absorption into regular University positions. Eligibility will be determined as on the last date of online submission of application.

Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification
Academic Level-14 (Chief Scientist / Principal Scientist)
- Ph.D. in the concerned discipline with published work of high quality, minimum 10 research publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-CARE listed journals, and total research score of 120.
- Minimum 10 years' experience as Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor or equivalent research level.
Academic Level-13A (Senior Scientist cum Head / Senior Scientist / Scheme Agronomist)
- Ph.D. in concerned discipline; Master's degree with at least 55% marks.
- Minimum 8 years' experience of teaching and/or research at Assistant Professor equivalent level, with minimum 7 publications in peer-reviewed/UGC-CARE listed journals and research score of 75.
- Exception (Senior Scientist cum Head – KVK): Doctoral degree in Agricultural Sciences / Home Science / Fisheries / Animal Sciences / Veterinary Sciences with 8 years' experience as Scientist/Lecturer/Extension Specialist in PB-3 (Rs. 15,600–39,100) with Grade Pay Rs. 5,400–8,000. For Engineering disciplines: Doctoral degree in Agricultural Engineering with 6 years' experience, or Master's degree with 10 years' experience in equivalent positions.
Academic Level-10 (Jr. Scientist / Scientist / Subject Matter Specialist / Assistant Seed Production Officer)
- Master's degree with 55% marks in the concerned subject from a recognized university.
- NET qualification (ICAR/UGC/CSIR) required (not required for disciplines where NET is not conducted).
- Subject-specific requirements: M.Sc. (Ag.) in Agronomy, Horticulture, Entomology/Plant Pathology, Genetics & Plant Breeding, Soil Science, etc. as applicable per post. M.V.Sc. or M.Sc. (AH & D) for Livestock Production & Management.
- KVK Subject Matter Specialist (Agricultural Engineering): M.Tech/M.Sc. (Ag.) in Soil and Water Conservation with B.Tech/B.Sc. (Ag.) as per Annex-A.
Level-6 (Assistant / Programme Assistant / Farm Manager / Sr. Technical Assistant / Head Clerk / Sr. Tech. Asstt.)
- B.Sc. (Ag.)/B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture for Assistant, Farm Manager, and Programme Assistant (Lab Technician).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Computer Application/IT for Programme Assistant (Computer).
- M.Sc. (Ag.) or B.Sc. (Ag.) with 03–04 years' experience for Technical Assistant posts under AICRP projects (specific subject as per post).
- B.Tech or Diploma in Agricultural Engineering with 03 years' experience for specific Technical Assistant post (F08).
- For Head Clerk: Graduation with 55% marks, 1-year Diploma in Computer Application, English typing 30 WPM and Hindi typing 25 WPM.
Level-5 (Field Assistant / Tech. Asstt. under AICRP)
- M.Sc. (Ag.) or B.Sc. (Ag.) with 03 years' experience in the relevant field.
Level-4 (Stenographer Grade III)
- 12th class pass or equivalent from a recognized board.
- Dictation test at 80 w.p.m. (English: transcription in 50 minutes; Hindi: transcription in 65 minutes on computer).
Level-3 (Driver / Technical T-1)
- High School pass from recognized board. Two years' driving experience with valid heavy vehicle driving license (for Driver posts).
- B.Sc. (Ag.)/B.Sc./I.Sc. with 3 years' field/lab experience (for Technical T-1 posts).
Level-1 (Skilled Supporting Staff / Field Man / Peon / Lab Attendant / Tractor Driver)
- High School pass from recognized board (Peon/MTS, Skilled Supporting Staff).
- High School Agriculture/Science pass with 2 years' experience (Field Man).
- Intermediate in Agriculture/Science (Lab Attendant).
- High School pass with valid driving license; 3 years' LMV driving experience preferred (Tractor Driver).
Age Limit (Non-Teaching Posts – L-6 to L-1)
- General: 18–30 years
- OBC: 18–33 years
- SC/ST: 18–35 years
- Widows / Divorced / Judicially separated women (not remarried): 18–35 years (40 years for SC/ST)
- Weightage of 4% marks per year of service (minimum 240 days/year) for daily wages/contractual employees working in BHU, up to 20% ceiling, for Group C & D non-teaching positions.
- Service rendered in BHU on contract/daily wage/project basis may be considered for age relaxation.
Selection Process & Screening Clause
- For posts at AL-10 and above: Shortlisting of applications will be carried out as per UGC Regulations 2018 (prescribed guidelines for shortlisting faculty positions). Shortlisted candidates will be called for interview.
- For posts at L-01 to L-06: A written test will be conducted by the University. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of written test performance may be required to appear for a skill test (if required).
- The University reserves the right to apply additional or more stringent criteria for shortlisting, including conducting a written test for Group A posts.
- No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the written test, skill test, or interview.
- Mere eligibility for a post does not guarantee being called for interview.
Contract Terms & Important Conditions
- Appointments are on a contract basis for a maximum of 05 years, co-terminus with the project/post.
- Extension after 5 years will be considered based on review of past performance by a competent committee.
- Pay and allowances will be paid as per the funding agency's guidelines. Where no specific guidelines exist, BHU's Project Guidelines 2018 will apply.
- There is no possibility of absorption into regular University positions. No legal claim for regularization or further engagement will arise after completion of the contract period.
- The appointee may terminate the service by giving three months' notice in writing or by paying three months' salary in lieu of notice.
- The University reserves the right to terminate the contract without assigning any cause in case of misconduct or breach of terms.
- Selected candidates may be relocated or transferred according to project needs.
